If you search the internet for Dyson replacement batteries, you will notice there are lots of copy versions available online.

Which can make it a challenge for customers to choose a replacement.

Most copy batteries being sold on sites like Amazon and E-bay state they have a much greater capacity or run time.  A genuine Dyson V6 battery has six cells inside with a capacity of 2100mAh. So if a seller is stating their battery has a capacity of anything over 3000mAh in a battery pack which the same physical size as the genuine one, for a third of the price, I would be sceptical!

(Inside a battery pack there is also a printed circuit board which has the job of making sure the cells inside are kept safe. It monitors the temperature of the battery pack and makes sure the cells are not damaged by being overcharged or run down below a certain voltage)

I have found that the cheapest copy batteries available online do have a reputation for either not working at all from new, or they tend to fail within twelve months.

There are compatible battery packs that use better quality cells manufactured by companies such as Samsung.

But unfortunately these better quality compatible batteries are not that much cheaper than a genuine battery.

Using any Dyson cordless machine on the MAX setting a lot or permanently, will shorten the life of that battery pack. If a lower power mode can be used, you could potentially get double the lifespan.

Dyson website has a page with recommendations of how to look after your battery: www.dyson.co.uk/support/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/battery-care    (Basically says "try not to use the MAX setting")
